Incurrence by JustinChristenbery Incurrence by JustinChristenbery
41.5"x53.5" acrylic on canvas

**:9/16/10 update- I finally was able to get an accurate photo of the painting & have swapped out the old file w/ the new.

The finished(& now prize winning) piece. A view of it in progress can be seen here: [link] .

So many things have been coming clear to me about my approach to and direction with painting lately. This piece speaks to that much more clearly than my words do.

I plan to take a better photo once the show it's participating in is over. Amazingly enough, it won 1st place. Hard work really does pay off....go figure:)

The title means: the act of bringing upon oneself.

Thank you- this is perhaps what I'd consider my best "live" painting so far. However, to be fair, I did put quite a bit of work into it after that first night. I believe there's an early shot of it in my scraps.

I dig the paint flow, mixture of colors and brush strokes that produce a tunneled perception - and the background being this little center of peace. It's like seeing with my third eye.

I love that despite the crazy swirl of waves, there is still a vantage point, something to keep us grounded in the distance. Like the wave swelling out before it surges in again.

lol it looks like color was just dumped on here and then moved around with a paint brush how much "detail" can there be?

I hope you'll excuse that I can't tell you anything useful as I'm really not well versed in art. But I love the flow and the points at which it somehow seems to break open. The colours and currents are incredible and the picture sucks you in like a real maelstroem!

Definitely a fav!

Come check out our graphic novel Asukari at kickstarter
[link] , freelance artists social networking through
craigslist have collaborated and and are in the process of creating a graphic novel .
The world of asukari depicts the stark reality of the janjaweed's method of order , absolutley brutal and ongoing at this
very moment people , are being slaughtered and maimed by there own government and it's rebels . A horrific tragedy that our
main-stream media is refusing to discuss fully .

This is beautiful. I love the colors, the technique, the concept...but I think my favorite part of this piece is the title; it really brings the depth of this painting to a whole new level. And of course I am completely elated by the clever play on words.

This is amazing! What is your technique for blending all of these colors together without having them mix? Do you use layers or something?

Thank you, and yes...layers upon layers, and simply being aware of the local colors when I'm working in a given area.
